Who Are We?
In the Fall of 2007, a group of people, we call the founding members, got together around a dining room table and planned the first flight of this area's first pet bird organization. In January 2008 our first official meeting took place. Since then some of the founding members have changed with new faces and new ideas. That means we are growing!
At the present time we are a small group of extremely commited members along with many people who are associated with us in some way. It might be through our Yahoo group list, or it might be people who have contacted us to help place their bird or parrot in a new home.
We continue to meet each month and are involved with pet fairs and other pet oriented functions.
As it says on our home page, we are dedicated to the welfare of avian pets and psittaciformes in the wild; and to responsible bird ownership through education and example.
We have come to realize that
there is a lot of mis-information floating around out there about
exotic pet birds. Parrots and smaller birds are not like cats and
dogs. Their needs and intellect are very different, and they also
differ from species to species. We feel that the more people know
and understand about avian pets, the more likely birds and
parrots will have a happy, healthy life with their owners.
Not only that, bird people just enjoy communicating with other bird people.
Since our beginning, we have organized a rescue program that consists of foster homes and on-going education and net-working. You can read more about that on our Rescue Program page.
We hope to continue branching out, as we grow, and to become more and more active and known within the community around us and to be a valuable resource.
